LOCKS AND DAM
Giant
sturgeons lounge in shallow observation pool; fish ladders and
glass windows afford viewing of migrating fish. Beautiful

COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE DISCOVERY CENTER and MUSEUM
Explore 40 million years of geologic history, 10,000 years of cultural history and 150 years of modern history through interactive multi-media exhibits at the official interpretive center of the Columbia River Gorge.
COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE SCENIC HIGHWAY
Completed in 1917, this highway, famous for its fabulous views,
provides access to Crown Point Vista House, Multnomah Falls and
other waterfalls, hiking trails and park.
A cassette tape guided tour describes the noteworthy landmarks
and sights of the Gorge. Tape can be ordered from

FISHING
Visit Adventure Fishing and enjoy catching Steelhead and Salmon
on the unspoiled rivers of Washington State. The tributaries of
the Columbia River hold some of the largest runs of Salmon and
Steelhead in the world. They can accomodate up to six people per

FORT DALLES
Located at 15th and Garrison Streets in The Dalles, this is the
last remaining building of the original fort and was used as the
surgeons' quarters. Wonderful assortment of historical displays.
MARYHILL MUSEUM OF ART
Nicknamed the "Castle on the Columbia," the museum
built in the 1920's by Sam Hill houses a large Rodin collection,
Russian icons, British, French, Dutch, and Native American artifacts,
plus a large chess set collection and an historical gallery dedicated
to Queen Marie of Romania. South of Goldendale on Route
14. (509) 773-3733. Directly below the castle, Hill
built a replica of England's Stonehenge as a World War I memorial.
MOUNT HOOD RAILROAD
Restored rail line takes visitors on two to four and
a half hour scenic rides into Hood River Valley past world famed
pear orchards, fruit plants, and lumber mills. Views of

SOROSIS PARK
Located on Scenic Drive in The Dalles, this park has a breathtaking
view of The Dalles, majestic mountains, and the Columbia River.
Includes a physical fitness course, running or walking trails,
large children’s playground and a workout station. Restroom and picnic areas are available.
A beautiful rose garden surrounds the historic Vogt Fountain.
At the viewpoint, across Scenic Drive from the park, is
the Vietnam Memorial, a tribute to Americans who lost their lives
so far from home.
STERNWHEELER TOURS OF THE COLUMBIA
Replica of a 19th century classic sternwheeler offer daily and
dinner cruises. Departs from Cascade Locks, site of the

THE DALLES LOCK AND DAM
One of a chain of giant dams harnessing the Columbia River's
energy for electric power. Free guided tour train leaves
Seufert Park. Visitor's Center with stops at dam, powerhouse,
fish ladders, and historical exhibit, including a petroglyph collection
and Lewis and Clark display. Lake Celilo reservoir boasts
such recreational uses as boating, picnicking, fishing, swimming,
and water skiing.
WHITEWATER RAFTING
Commercial outfitters run the rapids of the Klickitat, White
Salmon and Deschutes Rivers. Call

WINDSURFING
