Salt Palace Convention Center: Directly across the street:
Houses National and Regional Conventions as well as special
events, trade shows and the Salt Lake Travel Bureau.
Delta Center: 4 Blocks: Home of the Utah Jazz Basketball
Team, the Delta is the main venue for Rock, Pop, Western Music
Concerts and Rodeo events.
Gateway Shopping & Entertainment Center: 3 Blocks: The
“Gateway” is Salt Lake’s newest attraction
built on the old Union Pacific Railroad yard. It houses unique
and boutique shopping as well as name brand stores, movie theatres,
13 restaurants and THE CLARK PLANETARIUM.
Temple Square and the Family Tree Center: 2 Blocks: Enjoy
the ten acres of landscaped grounds on Temple Square, the center
of the Mormon Church and Salt Lake’s most celebrated landmark.
The granite temple with gothic spires was built between 1853
and 1893. Catch a performance of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir
in the domed Tabernacle building. The Tabernacle and the adjacent
Assembly Hall both house huge pipe organs over 100 years old.
The visitor center on the grounds conduct daily tours.
The Family Tree Center: 2 Blocks: You can discover your ancestors
and search over 650 million names from around the world.
Catholic Cathedral of the Madeleine: 6 Blocks: Recently renovated
Gothic Style is a masterpiece with magnificent stained glass
windows and other elaborate art.
Maurice Abravanel Concert Hall: 2 Blocks: Home to the Utah
Symphony, this state of the art concert hall features concerts
all during the year.
Joseph Smith Memorial Building: 2 Blocks: Formerly the Hotel
Utah this historic building houses the LDS Church administrative
offices, two restaurants, a chapel, and a large screen movie
theater showing films of the Mormon ancestors trek across the
United States Monday thru Saturday.
The Capitol Theatre: 1 Block: Home to the Utah Opera and
traveling Opera Companies throughout the year, this newly restored
historic building invites you to explore its history every day
but Sunday.
Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center: 3 Blocks: Features avante
garde presentations from local and traveling artists.
Rio Grande Depot: 4 Blocks: (Our Shuttle is available FREE
when you arrive or depart on AMTRACK. Home of the Utah State
Historical Society this historic and working train depot houses
a restaurant, historical library and museum.
Crossroads Mall & ZCMI Mall: 2 Blocks: located across
the street from each other these 2 large enclosed malls provide
hours of shopping in Nordstrom’s, Mier & Frank, The
Gap, Old Navy, Brookstone and other fine stores.
Restaurants: Within 1 block to 4 blocks are Chinese, Japanese,
Steak & Chop houses, Italian, Pasta, Indian, Pizza, Mexican
and continental dining. Bon Appetit!
Nightclubs: within 1 block to 4 blocks are located sports
pubs, beer breweries, local hangouts and high gloss nightclubs
with live music and entertainment.
EXPLORING WITHIN TWO MILES:
City Creek Canyon: Close and beautiful, the street is closed
every other day to bicycles only. Bicycling is an excellent
way to see the canyon and we can provide the names of rental
agencies close by.
Red Butte Gardens & Arboretum: Nestled against the mountains
by the University of Utah the Red Butte is 13 acres of botanical
gardens with shops, hiking and biking trails. Guides are available
for tours every day from Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving.
Utah State Capitol Building and Marmalade Hill: The Granite
and marble State Capitol is undergoing earthquake renovation
for 4 years but is still open to the public. Marmalade Historic
District is where many historic pioneer houses are located.
Hogle Zoo: Nestled at the foot of the mountains the zoo displays
an extensive collection of exotic animals, birds and reptiles.
A childrens petting zoo and learning center complete with train
is on site.
Tracy Aviary & Liberty Park: Located on 16 acres of wooded
and landscaped gardens almost at the edge of the city this park
offers lots of room for relaxation. The Aviary features over
1000 birds, and a small children’s amusement area is on
site.
University of Utah: Houses two of Utah’s finest museums:
The Utah Museum of Fine Arts and the Utah Museum of Natural
History which features life size dinosaur remains excavated
in Utah.
Pioneer Trail State Park: Located near the moutn of Emigration
Canyon this is where Mormon Pioneers entered the Salt Lake Valley
in 1847. Old Dessert Village is a “living Museum”
and depicts life in the valley from 1847 to 1869.
Trolley Square: A lovingly restored 1908 built Trolley Car
Barn, this nationally famous shopping and entertainment complex
is indoors and features shops, restaurants, theaters, open market
and art displays.
VISIT SALT LAKE CITY’S GREAT OUTDOORS:
Wasatch Mountains: Hikers and bikers can explore the myriad
of back country trails.
Big Cottonwood Canyon & Resorts: This 15 mile long canyon
provides a scenic road that winds along next to the Big Cottonwood
River. In the summer there is fishing, camping, hiking, picnicking
and rock climbing. In the winter skiing is available at Brighton
and Solitude Ski Resorts. (See Ski Packages on our Web Site).
Brighton Lakes Trail, located at the top of Big Cottonwood
Canyon in Brighton, ascends 2.5 miles to Lake Mary. Hardy hikers
will want to continue upward over the 10,200 ft Catherine Pass.
Little Cottonwood Canyon: Like its’ neighbor to the
north this canyon is a year-round outdoor haven. In the Winter
visit the ski resorts of Snowbird and Alta. (See ski packages

The Great Salt Lake: Located in the West Desert area this
inland ocean has a saline content of 5% to 27%, nearly 7 times
saltier than any ocean. Antelope Island connected to the mainland
from the north shore of the lake features antelope, buffalo
and old west buildings. You can hike, bike, picnic and camp.
Gardner Historic Village: An easy 5 mile drive from the Shilo
was once the old Gardner Flour Mill built in 1877 by Archibald
Gardner. It has been restored and houses art and country furniture
galleries, the Christmas Shop, candy store and bakery, and Archibald’s
Restaurant.
Wheeler Farm: is a historic 1890’s style working farm
with a restaurant on the premises.
Kennecott’s Bingham Copper Mine: The world’s
largest man made open pit mine features an observation deck
where you can see the operations and trucks with 8ft. tires,
a museum of copper mining and smelting, film every 30 minutes
and has a unique gift shop on the premises. Open April thru
October.
NATIONAL PARKS:
Within 1 one day driving distance from downtown Salt
Lake you can visit 11 of our greatest national parks: Bryce,
Zion, Grand Canyon, Jackson Lake Park, Yellowstone Park to name
just a few.
SKIING:
There are 7 ski resorts within 45 miles of the Shilo
Hotel in Salt Lake City. The powder snow of the Wasatch Range
is the deepest and most famous in the world. Ski from Thanksgiving
