Ocean Shores is a 6,000 acre
peninsula at the mouth of Grays Harbor, the only deep water port
on the Pacific coast north of San Francisco. Ocean Shores was
originally developed in 1960, and is one of Washingtons
most popular resort destinations. In Ocean Shores, youll
find 6 miles of sandy beaches which extend north of town 15 miles
to Moclips. The city also features 23 miles of interconnecting
lakes and canals, and 12 miles of scenic bayside.

BEACH COMBING
Enjoy strolling along the wide open sandy beaches which extend
north from Ocean Shores North Jetty, nearly 20 miles to Moclips.
In Ocean Shores, the beach extends six miles. The North Jetty
is a popular site with crashing waves, and terrific views of the
shipping channel. Westport is just across the bay, where you'll
enjoy plentiful birds and wildlife.

BIRDWATCHING
Ocean Shores is one of the Northwests premier sites for
bird watching excursions. Damon Point (also known as Protection
Island), is very popular and is a nesting site for the Snowy Plover.
Youll also see Brown Pelicans, Peregrine Falcons, Herons,
and dozens of other species.
BOATING AND BOAT LAUNCHES
Boat launches are available at various park locations throughout
Ocean Shores. The primary ramp facility into the fresh waterways
is located on Duck Lake at North Bay Park, just off Albatross
Street. Ocean bound boats can launch at the Ocean Shores Marina
at the southern end of Pt. Brown Avenue.
BOWLING
At Ocean Shores Bowl, near the Convention Center in the Whalers
Plaza. Rental shoes are available. Call (360) 289-9356.
BUMPER CARS AND BOATS
Bumper cars and boats located on Pt. Brown Avenue across from
City Hall, are operated by Playtime, Inc. 360-289-2702. Bumper
boats are located at Pacific Paradise 360-289-9537.
CLAM DIGGING
A very popular pastime and a great sport for those willing to
get wet. But, the reward will be the Northwests finest razor
clams. Digging allowed during clam seasons only. Licenses are
required and are available at Basic Needs/Ace Hardware. Check
with the Chamber of Commerce for clamming season information.
Shilo offers a clam-cleaning station outside the hotel, east side.
ENVIRONMENTAL INTERPRETIVE CENTER
The Interpretive Center is a must-see for visitors. Its
located next to the marina at the south end of the Ocean Shores
peninsula. An enjoyable and educational experience for all ages.

FERRY TO WESTPORT
The Ocean Shores-Westport ferry runs between Memorial Day and
Labor Day annually, and some weekends during the rest of the year.
The ferry, the MV Matador, is a passenger only (foot) ferry and
can accommodate 70 passengers per trip. The crossing time varies
between 20 and 40 minutes.Tickets are available at the Silver
King Motel next to the Ocean Shores Marina, (360) 289-3386.
FISHING
Surf fishing is best near the North Jetty and on Protection Island
(near the marina). Crabbing is best near the marina at Damon Point.
Fresh water fishing is available on Duck Lake and all canals throughout
Ocean Shores. Bottom fishing, tuna, salmon and halibut fishing
charters are available seasonally. Contact Catchalot Charters

Westport. Charters can pick up passengers at Ocean Shores Marina.

GO-KARTS AND SLIK TRACK

GOLF
Ocean Shores boasts the only golf course on the Washington coast!
The municipal Ocean Shores Golf Course is a public, 18-hole PGA
rated championship course offering multiple tees and a pro-shop
with cart rentals. Open every day. Call (360) 289-3357.
HORSEBACK RIDING
Take an invigorating ride on the beach or explore on a nearby
trail. Year-round riding is available, but call for more detailed

KITES
The most popular activity on any beach is kite flying. Great
kite shops are in Ocean Shores, where you can purchase kites,
windsocks, beach toys, etc. Cloud Nine Kite Shop is outside the
entrance to Ocean Shores, (360) 289-2221. Cutting Edge Kites is
in Nantucket Mall on Ocean Shores Blvd., (360) 289-0667; Ocean
Shores Kites is in the Shores Mall, (360) 289-4103; Winds Northwest
is just west of the Ocean Shores entrance on Damon Road, (360)

Another very popular activity for anyone with a drivers
license. A motorcycle license is not required, but a helmet is.

North Bay Park on Albatross and Chance-A-La-Mer; softball field,
tennis court, boat launch, covered picnic area, restrooms. Community
park offers horseshoes, volleyball and basketball courts, football,
soccer and baseball fields, barbecue pits and restrooms.
POOL, SPA, SAUNA, STEAM ROOM, FITNESS
CENTER
A swimming pool, spa, sauna, steam room and fitness center, of
course, is available here at Shilo Hotel for our guests.
SIGHTSEEING
The best sight seeing in Ocean Shores is on the lake and canals.
Duck Lake is a haven for water fowl and otters. Or, drive north
along Highway 101 through Ocean City, Copalis Beach, Pacific Beach
and Moclips. Spectacular ocean vistas, beaches, forests and rivers
meander throughout the north beach area; 45 minutes north of Ocean
Shores on Highway 101 is Lake Quinault and the Olympic Rain Forest.
Excellent hiking.
STORM WATCHING
Winter months provide the best storm watching. A great vantage
point is the North Jetty, at the southern tip of Ocean Shores.
Be careful; winter storms can bring in 25-foot seas and high winds
which can be very dangerous. Monster waves create a powerful exciting
roar which can be heard throughout Ocean Shores. Check with the
Ocean Shores Police Department for particulars.
TENNIS
West Court Park on Bass Avenue and at North Bay City Park on
Albatross. First come, first served. Pacific Park Courts on Ocean
Shores Blvd. are available with advance permission from the Ocean
Shores Community Club.

WHALE WATCHING
From the North Jetty or on the ferry ride from the Ocean Shores
Marina to Westport. Whale watching tours are also available and

pick up passengers at the Ocean Shores Marina.
DAY TRIPS FROM OCEAN SHORES:
Lake Quinault and Olympic National Park. Only 45 minutes
north of Ocean Shores youll find some of the most beautiful
country on earth. The Lodge at Lake Quinault sits on the shores
of this beautifully serene lake, and offers excellent dining with
fabulous views of the lake. The only temperate rain forests in
North America begin just a few miles from the lodge.

This 1920's home includes antique furniture, clothing, artifacts
from around the area. Between September and May, the Museum is
open weekends from Noon to 4:00 p.m. No admission charge.
Hoquiams Castle. 515 Chenault Avenue, Hoquiam, (360)
533-2005. Built in 1897 by lumber tycoon Robert Lytle, the mansion
was quite a contrast to the sawmills and bar rooms of the lusty,
booming timber town. Open 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Seven days a
week in the summer; 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. all other months,
except closed in December. Minimal admission charge.
Aberdeen Museum of History. 11 E 3rd, Aberdeen, (360)
533-1976. 1922 National Guard Armory features period exhibits,
a slide presentation, interesting artifacts. Hours are the same
as Polson Museum. No admission charge.
Westport. Across the bay from Ocean Shores, this fishing
village offers many great shops, an 800-slip marina (open to the
public), charter fishing, whale watching, dinner cruises. 1939
Coast Guard Station featuring historic photographs and artifacts.
