MUSEUMS & HISTORICAL SITES
Covington House was built in 1848 and is one of the oldest remaining structures in the area.  Located at 4208 Main St., Vancouver.

Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, was established in 1825 by Hudson's Bay Fur Trading Company.  Located at 1501 E Evergreen Blvd., Vancouver.   Call (360) 696-7655 for hours.

Grant House, located at 1101 Officers' Row, is named for President Ulysses S. Grant, who was stationed at Vancouver Barracks as a quarter-master in 1850.   Now houses a restaurant at Historic Reserve call 360-906-1101 for information.

Hidden House was built in the 1880s as the home of prominent Vancouver citizen L.M. Hidden.  Today it houses a restaurant, featuring the original woodwork, stained glass and door knobs of the early home.  Call (360) 696-2847.

Marshall House at 1313 Officers' Row, is beautifully restored from 1886 beginnings.  Tours are available by calling (360) 693-3103.
Officers' Row offers you a chance to stroll in the footsteps of famous generals and presidents while viewing a tree-lined street of stately homes.  It is the only preserved row of officers' historical homes in the nation.
Pearson Air Museum is the oldest operating airfield in the U.S.  It features a display of vintage aircraft and is open weekends.  101 E. Reserve, Vancouver.

St. James Church is considered one of Vancouver's premier architectural structures, and is home of the oldest Catholic congregation in Washington state.   Constructed in 1885, it was the first Gothic church in the state.  12th and Washington St., Vancouver.

Slocum House, at 6th and Esther St., Vancouver, is the last of a Victorian-era residential neighborhood.  It now houses Slocum Theatre.

Cedar Creek Grist Mill, resting in a steep, rocky slope at the bottom of a narrow gorge, is the only grain grinding mill in Washington that has maintained it's original structural integrity.  A National Historic Landmark, it operates as a working museum.  Tours are available by calling a member of Friends of Cedar Creek Grist Mill, (360) 260-8185.

Pendleton Woolen Mills and Outlet Store 2, located at 17th St., Washougal, offers a selection of Pendleton products, worn worldwide.  The mill and factory outlet store offers tours and is one of the most visited places in the Northwest.  Call Katie Satterfield at the Pendleton Woolen Mills (800) 760-4844 for information.

STATE TROUT HATCHERY
Located at 12208 S.E. Evergreen Hwy., the hatchery is open for tour.  Call (360) 892-2581.

DAY USE PARKS--Greater Vancouver Area
Burnt Bridge Creek Greenway offers two miles of winding, tree-lined pathway bordering Burnt Bridge Creek.  West entrance to the trail is located at the intersection of Bernie Dr. and N.W. Fruit Valley Road.

Central Park is one square mile of public land in the center of Vancouver.  Include Fort Vancouver, Marshall Park, Old Apple Tree Park and Officers' Row.  Located in the Fourth Plain and McLoughlin area.  You'll find picnic areas, sporting fields, an exercise station, jogging paths, historic buildings, and amphitheater and display gardens.

Esther Short Park, a five acre site, is the oldest public square in Washington State.  Located at 8th and Esther Streets.

Marine Park, located along the Columbia River on Columbia Way, features boat ramps, picnic areas, play equipment, a ball field and a hiking/fitness trail.

Leverich Park at 39th and "M" Streets, offer a large covered shelter, barbecue stands, horseshoe pits, hiking trails and softball fields.
Old Apple Tree Park on Columbia Way, east of I-5 bridge, is home to the oldest apple tree in the state, reportedly planted in 1826 by Dr. John McLoughlin.

Orchards County Park is a 33-acre park located near Vancouver Mall at Fourth Plain and 102nd Avenue.  Picnic areas, playground equipment, playfields and restrooms are available.

Salmon Creek County Park, located three miles north of Vancouver off I-5, near 117th Street, offers a spring-fed lake with sandy beach, bathhouse, roped swimming area, hiking and concessions in summer months.

Vancouver Lake County Park borders Vancouver Lake and features a sandy beach, windsurfing, boating, volleyball and barbecue pits.  It is located six miles west of I-5 and Fourth Plain Interchange on SR 501.
Waterfront Park is located on the Columbia River at 6400 Beach Drive.   A 15-acre site, it offers a sandy beach with swimming, picnic areas and restrooms.

Whipple Creek County Park borders N.W. 21st and N.W. 31st Avenues.   Deeply wooded, it features extensive trail for hiking and horseback riding.
