| Under threatening
skies and a blustery wind, those who died serving the cause
of freedom were honored on May 15, 1994, in Lincoln City,
Oregon, with the dedication of the American Veterans' and
Desert Storm Memorial.
The monument is a six-foot high hexagon; each face is
six-feet wide at the bottom and narrows to a three-foot
width at the top. A United States flag flies atop
the monument.
The five branches of the U.S. Armed Forces are fully
represented. Below each branch's logo appears information
on its active participation in the Persian Gulf War, and
the names of those men and women who were killed in action
during that war. A Sixth face continues the name
of U.S. Army deceased.
"This memorial will serve
as a perpetual reminder of those brave souls who gave
the ultimate sacrifice for America -- their lives."
Sam
Cribbs, Mayor of Lincoln City May 15, 1994
