BLIMP HANGAR / US NAVAL AIR STATION

The Guinness Book of World Records lists this as the largest freestanding wooden structure in the world. It was built during WWII to house naval blimps used along the coast to identify Japanese submarine activity. The blimps were 300 feet wide, 1100 feet long and 195 feet high. Visitors can drive to the blimp hangar by way of the entrance to the Port of Tillamook Bay Industrial Park. Turn east off Hwy 101 at the flashing light, about two miles south of Tillamook, then turn right into the Port of Tillamook Bay. CAPE MEARES STATE PARK AND NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE / HIKING TRAILS

Ten miles west of Tillamook, located at the north end of the "beautiful 20 miles." Three Capes Scenic Loop is Cape Meares State Park. Here you’ll find spectacular viewpoints along vista trails, a day-use area, Cape Meares Lighthouse, and unusual attractions such as the "Octopus Tree," a 10-foot diameter Sitka Spruce.

HIKING TRAILS: Enjoy hiking on the coast or in the mountains. We have hikes ranging from one to six miles. Pick up a brochure at the Shilo Inn Front Desk.

LATIMER QUILT AND TEXTILE CENTER

MUNSON CREEK FALLS

Enjoy the serenity of the highest waterfalls in the Oregon Coast Range. The 266-foot waterfall is located about 7 miles south of Tillamook off Hwy 101. Two short trails lead to the falls, but give yourself an hour to fully enjoy the area.

OCEANSIDE

Stop and view sea lions and birds resting on Three Arch Rocks. Enjoy hang gliding from the cliffs, beach combing or wind surfing.

PACIFIC OYSTER COMPANY

Located just six scenic miles north of Shilo Inn - Tillamook on Hwy 101 in beautiful Bay City. Take the boardwalk over the bay to the full production processing facility. Witness the "shuckers" and packers in action. Try an oyster shooter from the oyster bar, or some homemade clam chowder. SCENIC DRIVES

Several scenic routes are accessible to Tillamook visitors. The breathtaking viewpoints along the road over Neahkahnie Mountain and the route to the Experimental Forest near Cascade Head offer convenient pull-offs for photographs or picnicking. The Three Capes scenic loop winding along the coast to Pacific City and the paved road to the top of Mount Hebo are also popular travel routes.

TILLAMOOK CITY HALL

Located on Laurel and Second Streets, the building is on the National Register of Historic Places. With a fresco mural of Capt. Robert Gray, the first American to land on the west coast of North America in 1788, it is a captivating look at coastal history.

TILLAMOOK COUNTY CREAMERY ASSOCIATION

Watch cheesemakers at work, sample local cheese or a dish of Tillamook ice cream while you browse in the gift shop. Located two miles north of Tillamook on Hwy 101. (503) 815-1300.

TILLAMOOK COUNTY PIONEER MUSEUM

Established in 1935, the museum is housed in the second Court House built in the city of Tillamook in 1905, at 2106 Second Street. Created from a nucleus of 400 artifacts gathered by the Pioneer Association, there are now over 35,000 artifacts in the collection. Popular attractions include the Clerk’s Vault, housing war relics, a display of the Tillamook Naval Air Station and the famous WWII blimps. The Sheriff’s Vault, with its gun collection, the Quilt Room with bedding and clothing display and a display of toys and musical instruments housed in the Children’s Room. A Victorian parlor and numerous dioramas depicting animal and plant life of the area are also featured, as is the Library and the Steam Logging Donkey, located on the museum grounds. Visiting hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tues-Sat. Sundays, 11:00 to 5:00 p.m., except holidays. Call (503) 842-4553 for more information.

WHISKEY CREEK FISH HATCHERY

Located on the Three Capes Scenic Route, this is a pleasant stop, where you can enjoy viewing hundreds of fish and actually feed them.
