“29 Palms” Press Release
12/14/04

Shilo Inns supports troops of the 29 Palms Marine Base

PORTLAND, OR - Shilo Inns, who has a strong history of supporting our nation’s troops, has again stepped forth to help. When Mark Hemstreet, owner of Shilo Inns, heard about “Operation Sent by Angels,” a program created to support troops from the 29 Palms Marine Corps Base, he immediately wanted to help. The result was a generous contribution of $15,000 to help provide needed items and phone cards to local marines serving in Iraq. Operation Sent by Angels was created by Victoria Morrison, a Marine wife whose wounded husband recently returned home from Iraq after losing half his foot.

Mr. Hemstreet and his wife Shannon also wanted to do something for the families of the Marines serving overseas. So they gave 500 $50 gift certificates for the Marine Corps children at the 29 Palms Marine Base to use at local retailers during the Christmas holiday season.

“Shannon and I felt it was extremely important to let our brave men and women in the armed forces know that their heroic contributions to our nation’s security are being remembered at this time of year,” says Hemstreet “For many of our soldiers, this is their first holiday away from home and family. So we wanted to do something special to show our support for their personal sacrifices.”

Shilo has been a fervent supporter of our nation’s troops over the years. Long before the events of 9-11, Shilo was responsible for the creation of the American Veterans and Desert Storm Memorial, located in Lincoln City, Oregon on the Pacific Ocean. Shilo Inns was also awarded the first ever Corporate Patriotic Tribute Award in recognition of its long standing support of America’s veterans, at the sixth annual American Veterans award banquet in Beverly Hills, California in December of 2000. In addition, Shilo Inns continues to pay for television and radio patriotic tribute announcements recognizing the contributions of our past veterans as well as the current important contributions of our nation’s troops.

Hemstreet has a sincere admiration for our brave troops who risk their lives to keep the rest of us free. His own family has served in our nation’s armed forces, including his Uncle Bob Hemstreet, who was in the second wave of the Normandy Landing in 1944.

“Our appreciation to our troops is truly heart-felt,” says Hemstreet. “Shilo Inns, on behalf of our 1,500 dedicated employees, would like to thank again all the veterans and today’s troops, the guardians of freedom, for their continued service to preserving liberty and freedom for the free world.”
