Portland, OR – Shilo Inns, the largest privately owned and operated hotel chain in the Western United States, will be helping to set a national trend—They are going 100% smoke free in all hotels and restaurants on January 1, 2009.
With the approach of New Year’s Eve, Shilo Inns’ owner, Mark Hemstreet, announced that Shilo Inns would usher in the New Year by making all Shilo Inn hotels and restaurants 100% smoke free.
“We care about our customers as well as our employees’ health and comfort,” Hemstreet said. “We consistently get more and more requests from our guests for smoke free rooms and since we have already had 95% of our rooms and suites non-smoking for many years, we felt it was the best decision to finally turn the entire hotel and restaurant environment to “Smoke Free”.
“Guests have always gotten more for their money when they choose to stay at a Shilo Inn,” Hemstreet said. “Now they will also be getting a fresh, 100% smoke-free environment at every Shilo hotel and restaurant.”
Shilo offers business and leisure travelers a great value in healthy surroundings. The fully equipped fitness centers, spacious pools, spas, steam rooms and saunas, and now a smoke free environment make it easy for valued Shilo guests to compliment their New Years resolutions for a healthy 2009.

PORTLAND, OR - Hwy 26 will be sparkling with the holiday spirit thanks again to Shilo Inns' annual Christmas light display. The display utilizes over 100,000 lights and is a must-see for holiday revelers looking to get in the Christmas holiday spirit.
It is a spectacular sight for all travelers who pass by Shilo Inns' corporate headquarters near the Cedar Hills Blvd. exit off Hwy 26. The lights will be illuminated starting as usual, the night after Thanksgiving, November 28th at dusk, and will continue every evening through New Year's Eve.
"The Christmas holiday season is my family's favorite time of year. We love everything it stands for - the birth of Jesus, The Prince of Peace and time to be with family and friends," said Mark Hemstreet, owner of Shilo Inns. "The lights are also very significant because they are a show of Shilo's support for all of our veterans and brave troops who are willing to spend their holidays overseas defending our liberties and freedom; we appreciate very much everything they are doing for our country and it is our humble way to say 'Thank you!'"
The Shilo corporate office, located at 11600 SW Shilo Lane in Portland, is also an official drop-off site for the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves' Toys for Tots Foundation, a drive that delivers new toys and a message of hope to children in the Portland community. Last year Shilo surpassed donation goals and this year Shilo invites all members of the community to help light up children's holidays by dropping off new, unwrapped toys to the collection box at the Shilo headquarters.
"Toys for Tots is a very special program because it allows me, my family, Shilo employees and the community to come together in a joint effort to help the children in our community," said Mark Hemstreet. "And on behalf of all our dedicated Shilo employees, Shilo will be contributing $2,500 again this year for a variety of children's toys, books, games and bikes."
