    THE DALLES LOCKS AND DAM

At 260 feet high and 8,875 feet long, it is the longest concrete and fourth largest power-producing dam in the U.S. The hydroelectric facility produces enough electricity to serve a city the size of Seattle. Located at the head of the slackwater pool created by Bonneville Dam, it impounds a reservoir that provides ship passage 25 miles upstream to John Day Dam. Visitors can take a train ride from Seufert Park Interpretive Center.

Its location in The Dalles, Oregon is an ecosystem transition zone, facilitating the interpretation of both the rain forest west of the Cascade Mountains and the arid region to the east.
